Mid-afternoon we reach The Blue Whale, an old roadside water park with a giant cement and rebar whale as its centerpiece. Hugh Davis built the park in 1970s, apparently before there were safety codes for playgrounds. A sign nearby designates it an official "Route 66 Roadside Attraction."
The pond is frozen, but we can still climb up inside the whale and look through a series of portholes that are bored through its sides.
Nearby is a large Noah's Ark, which is not in such good shape.
